The City of Sebastopol has four major parks, in addition
to several smaller pocket parks.
The four parks are Ives Park, located near the downtown area,
Libby Park, which is adjacent to Brookhaven Middle School
on Valentine Avenue, Laguna Youth Park, located adjacent to
the Laguna de Santa Rosa, and the Laguna de Santa Rosa Wetlands
Preserve.
Ives Park, Sebastopol's oldest park,
was established approximately fifty years ago, and contains
a playground, picnic areas, baseball field, and municipal
swimming pool. In addition, Calder Creek flows through the
center of the park, which is occupied by several ducks and
geese, to the pleasure of many of the park's visitors. Ives
Park is home to the Sebastopol Apple Blossom Festival, an
annual event that draws approximately 25,000 people.
Libby Park, built in the mid-1970's,
is situated in the west part of Sebastopol. It is home to
Sebastopol's Super Playground, Garzot Community Building,
picnic areas, and a pond. It is visited annually by several
local schools, who bring busloads of children on field trips
to the Super Playground.
Laguna Youth Park was built in 1987,
and is located at the east border of Sebastopol, between the
Community Center and the Laguna de Santa Rosa. It consists
of picnic areas and two baseball fields, which are used by
Little League. Laguna Park is home to several major annual
events, two of which are the Cajun Festival and the Celtic
Festival. They both draw several thousand visitors to the
Sebastopol area.
The Laguna de Santa Rosa Wetlands
Preserve is an area adjacent to Laguna
Park which consists of several miles of trails on both sides
of the Laguna de Santa Rosa, and an outdoor classroom designed
to accommodate approximately 50 people. The Laguna Preserve
has its first four phases completed, with more planned.
